Hobbies come in a variety of forms, from creative, active, academic, or just relaxing. If you’ve let a hobby drop in the recent months, this is your sign to pick it back up again! Or if your hobby just isn’t doing it for you anymore, then it’s time to try something new. Besides being fun, hobbies actually benefit our health, too. Below are some of the ways hobbies are good for your health.
1. Hobbies Reduce Stress
There’s nothing quite like winding down at the end of a tough day with a favourite hobby! Hobbies encourage us to relax, and they take our minds off of work so that we’re not constantly revisiting work tasks when the work day has ended.
2. Hobbies Can Improve Mental Health
Participating in a hobby can reduce feelings of anxiety and depression. While hobbies are obviously not a cure for mental illness, they do provide ways for us to counteract negative feelings of hopelessness and provide a sense of purpose and accomplishment.
3. Hobbies are Engaging
Have you ever felt the itching sensation to just do something? Like to use your hands to colour or dig in the garden? Hobbies are amazing activities that allow our brains and bodies to be engaged with our surroundings. If your mind and body have been itching to get up and do something, then it’s time to find a hobby.
4. Hobbies Help You Discover YOU
They are a great way for you to discover new activities that you find enjoyable and find new interests. It’s always a fun time when you pick up a new hobby and think to yourself, “Wow, I enjoy this more than I thought I would!” Hobbies can help us discover more about ourselves, and can also get us in touch with ourselves during times when we feel disconnected.
